Romita, belonging to an affluent and liberalized background is newly married to Palash, a struggling junior executive. One evening, they are on their way to return home after shopping. A sudden thundershower drives the crowd to nearby shelters. As Palash steps across the street to buy cigarettes, Romita is targeted by a group of leering roadside romeos. She is seriously manhandled. Palash comes rushing to the rescue but he is beaten up mercilessly and left unconscious. They pounce on her and try to abduct her on their motorbikes. Not a single person in the crowd intervenes except Jhinuk Sarkar. Jhinuk is a young unmarried schoolteacher. While passing in an auto rickshaw she witnesses the incidence and manages to drag Romita off the motorbike just in time. Jhinuk persuades the couple to lodge a complaint with the police. Press reporters pick up the story and the next morning Jhinuk’s heroic acts hits the headlines. The media hype sparks off a heap of social issues, family tensions and power games. Romita’s parents – in –law, at first in favor of proceedings against the criminals, are soon frightened by the embarrassing questions of their neighbors and friends. The culprits turn out to be sons of affluent families. They are able to hire the best lawyers to ensure an acquittal. But still, Jhinuk hopes for the best. Will these rigid social and blind laws help Romita gain justice?
